the hills are alive... in Heidiland

Heidiland - that's Switzerland to you.

This time, four days ago I was standing, jaw-dropped at the sheer beauty of the Lake Geneva's surrounding landscape, where me and my hubby-to-be decided to take some time out over the Bank holiday weekend.

We chose Montreux as our base, most famous for its summer jazz festival but also a stones throw from Lavaux. These famous terraced vineyards cover over 800 hectares of land that wine-loving tourists such as ourselves can leisurely stroll, stopping off at various local wineries to sample the goods.

Dropping off our bags we made for the hills and weren't disappointed...

Making the most of the long weekend we spent three days walking, eating (think cheese and chocolate), drinking Swiss wine and enjoying some much needed sunshine.

And we even came across a local wine festival during our strolling! WINE FESTIVAL! All the wine was local and delicious. For 5 francs we gout our own souvenir wine glasses - and then were able to sample and drink as much as we wanted. Apparently this festival is a regular event - the first Saturday of May every year. I've already added it to my calendar for 2013.

 The spring flowers were beautiful....
