The world is an amazing place, isn't it?

Here are some of my favourite pics of the 'great outdoors' that I've taken during my travels. Sit back, sip on your tea and enjoy :)

Weka - Queen Charlotte track, New Zealand
Weka - Queen Charlotte track, New Zealand
This little guy crossed our path unexpectedly when hiking in the South Island of New Zealand. Luckily I had my camera to hand.

Leafcutter Ants - Tikal National Park, Guatemala
These ants are amazing - they had formed a line that went right up the tree you can see in the background.

Moon - over Cerro Chirripó, Costa Rica

View as we climbed up to the summit for sunrise (that white dot top left is the moon).

Toad - Nicaragua

This 'little' guy greeted me one night when I went back to my hostel room. He was camped right outside my door for the entire evening.

My number one recommendation for Costa Rica. Yes, it's off the tourist trail - but the wildlife here is amazing.

Quetzal - Costa Rica
Quetzal - Costa Rica
I am extremely proud of this picture. After five months of back packing in Central America and hearing so much about this famous bird I was desperate to see one. This was a very lucky shot on a small compact camera, after spending a day sitting in silence under tree that was rumoured to attract  Quetzals in the right conditions.

Semuc Champey - Guatemala

We spent a day swimming in these natural water pools, and having our feet nibbled on by the fish that live in them.

Lake Atitlán - Guatemala

Enjoying a sit down after a fairly fast and steep hike up the mountain from San Juan.

Sunset, Iceland

A lonely road, a lucky snap.

Ponies - The New Forest National Park, UK
A great weekend away from London. There's about 3000 of these Ponies wandering about the forest.

Any favourite 'great outdoors' spots out there?

  2. These shots are wonderful! I've never seen a real quetzal, even when I was in CR...but it's so cute! And that's so cool you hiked Chirripo - I didn't make it up there but I was staying at a lovely farm a few hours from there in San Isidro General. I'm glad to have found your blog to follow!

    1. Thanks Lis-ita - glad you like them. Quetzals are just beautiful up close. They seem to almost 'flutter' from tree to tree. I absolutely adored Costa Rica for it's wildlife! xx
