choosing your 'walking down the aisle' musicWednesday, February 19, 2014
It wasn't until I started planning my own wedding that I realised how many decisions there are to make along the wedding journey. At the time each decision seems so important - your wedding is meant to be one of these most memorable days of your life right?
Music for me was one thing I wanted to be perfect. I wanted the perfect 'walking down the aisle' song, original, not too cheesy, enough emotion to bring tears to everyone's eyes but not so emotional that it would turn me into a sobbing mess.
I didn't have anything specific in mind, other than knowing that I didn't want Wagner's traditional wedding processional or Pachelbel's Canon in D, which is done to death in my opinion (apologies if you're reading this and had/have chosen this piece of music).
So I spent hours on the internet reading recommendations from all over the place, and a short-list of songs began to form...
- Til Kingdom Come - Coldplay
- The Flower Duet - Delibes
- Here comes the sun (instrumental) - Beatles cover
- Simply the best (acoustic cover) - Tina Turner. (This song was later scrapped when I listened to the words.)
- All I want is you (Juno) - Barry Louis Polisar
And then my awesome, amazing husband-to-be happened upon The Wedding song by Angus & Julia Stone - and we knew we had found the one. We asked a very talented friend of ours to play and sing it live as I walked down the aisle. Our version was minus the harmonica... and yes, it did bring tears to my eyes...
