photo Friday - yummy travel cocktails...

Confession. I've been a bad blogger.

Over the last week all my good blogger habits have completely gone out the window. I've missed post after post, failed to respond to tweets and comments, not read any of my favourite blogs or taken any blog-worthy photos!

Alas, life has been getting on top of me a bit. Work is super busy with a big project launch coming up, hubby and I have been flat hunting every spare moment, and last weekend we hosted a wedding anniversary party, which meant lots of cleaning and baking (mmmmm scones).

However - excuses aside I have found a way to make it up to you with some yummy travel inspired cocktails. Just in time for the weekend!! Enjoy...

Scrumptious Strawberry and Bubbles cocktail

Scrumptious Strawberry and Bubbles - New Zealand

This is one of my favourite summer party drinks - and first came to my attention when I was a student many years ago living in Wellington, New Zealand. My flatmates and I would kick back every so often and enjoy cheap bubbles made even better with a touch of rum and strawberries.
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 2 tbsps white rum
  • 1/4 cup caster sugar
  • 1 bottle bubbles
Mix together the strawberries, sugar and white rum, and then leave for about 10 minutes. When you can't wait any longer drop a strawberry into your favourite bubbles glass and top up with the good stuff!

Orange Rum Punch cocktail

Orange Rum Punch - Nicaragua

This delicious cocktail came to my attention while backpacking through Nicaragua. In Central America there is an abundance of oranges, and they are sweet and delicious. This Rum Punch was commonly made with Flor de Caña - a local rum whose name translates to 'Sugar-cane Flower'.
  • 2 portions light rum
  • 3 portions orange juice
  • 1 portion lime juice
  • Lemonade
Mix together the rum, orange juice and lime juice with some ice. Top up with sweet lemonade. Simple!

Moreish Moscow Mule cocktail

Moreish Moscow Mule - USA

A classic cocktail that originated in the United States. I have drunk many of these during my adventures in that part of the world.
  • 1 shot vodka
  • wedge (or two) of lime
  • Cold ginger beer
Pour your vodka into a chilled glass and squeeze the lime over the top. Drop the lime wedge into the glass and fill with the ginger beer. Sit back and enjoy.

Drinking a Pisco Sour in Lima, Peru
me, drinking a Pisco Sour in Lima, Peru

This pic of me was snapped after four months of backpacking through Central America. Hubby and I had just arrived in Lima and from memory were in desperate need of a shower and bed. However, we couldn't resist sampling a local drink first. There are lots of great things about travel. Cocktails included :)

Have a great weekend!!!
