romance in March - a wedding proposalWednesday, March 26, 2014
To me, March is a month for romance. Light the candles, pop the bubbles and dim the lights... I met my husband in March, was proposed to in March and last year got married in March.
Since starting this blog I've shared a lot about my wedding, and I've also shared how I fell in love - through a year of letters. Since it's currently my favourite month for romance, today I'm going to share how hubby and I came to be engaged...
We got engaged in Venice in March 2012. Hubby secretly bought my engagement ring while on a business trip to the USA earlier in the year. He was armed and ready to pop the question, but where and when?
One month later, feeling rather tired and miserable after running for an hour through Hyde Park in a last-ditch effort to train for a half marathon I casually suggested a break away to celebrate our efforts. "How about a city break to Venice to celebrate crossing the finish line?" (Yep, always an excuse to fit in more travel.)
Hubby was keen. So keen in fact he offered to do all the planning.
On arrival at Venice airport, a Limousine boat was waiting to pick us up. We went on a private tour of Venice’s canals, before checking in to a suite overlooking the Rialto Bridge on Grand Canal.
By this point I was slightly confused, “this isn't the hotel we booked!”.
Hubby -“I wanted to surprise you with an early anniversary present”.
So we spent the weekend visiting galleries, strolling along the canal, eating super-rich Italian food, taking pictures and shopping...
On our last evening we retired to our fancy hotel room, opened a bottle of pink champagne (all pre-planned by the amazing hubby), and hubby proposed a toast.
A toast that ended up on one knee holding a ring.
You know the rest...
