a garden party at Buckingham Palace

Back in March I was super-excited to get an email from the New Zealand High Commission in London letting me know that my application to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in the summer had been successful.

So you can only imagine my excitement last week when the official invitation arrived in the mail. I was literately bouncing off the walls...

What a fantastic day summers day we had in London yesterday! Just perfect for a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace...

Hubby and I put on our finest and spent the afternoon pretending we were royals... drinking tea and eating tiny little delicate sandwiches, roaming the Buckingham Palace gardens and making friendly conversation.

At 4:30pm the Queen arrived, along with a few other extended members of the Royal family and Kate Middleton. Woop! While I didn't actually get to meet either I did get pretty close (about 2 metres) - the Queen even paused to have a polite conversation with a couple of ladies standing in front of me. And I have to say she looks fantastic!

Buckingham Palace Gardens were beautiful... a huge rolling lawn, rose gardens and a gorgeous little lake that we took a leisurely stroll around...

What a fantastic way to spend a day! I'm super-chuffed that finally after five years in London I've managed to get myself within Buckingham Palace gates. Now I just need to work out how to get back on the invite list again next year!

  6. I think this is one of the best experiences you can have when living in London, my family came over a few years ago (once we knew we had got tickets in the ballot) and it was such an incredible experience that we still talk about to this day. The Queen is just gorgeous, she's like a bloody 80 year old supermodel! xx
