unwinding in seductive Ko Phi Phi Island - Thailand

Imagine this...

...sparkling crystal clear water as far as the eye can see, white powdery sand between your toes, fishing boats dotted along the horizon line, fresh coconut water running down your chin and a soft wind ruffling the leaves of a nearby coconut tree... (man I could be in marketing!!)...

My dear friends this relaxing heaven exists - it's called Ko Phi Phi island in Thailand, and it's precisely where I recently spent an amazing week doing, well not much at all.

It's quite unusual for hubby and I to have a full week of 'down time' with nothing to do than soak up a few rays. Normally we opt for city breaks or exploring new cultures so this type of holiday was quite new for us. But it didn't take more than a few moments to adjust. Especially with such a lovely welcome...

It was amazing week. I haven't felt so relaxed and happy in a long time. And even though we are now home in London I'm still holding onto 'my zen'.

This was my hammock for the week... not a bad spot right?

All we really had to worry about was falling coconuts!

It's currently the early rainy season in Thailand and we were warned about the weather not being great in June, but in actual fact it was pretty good. And as a bonus the beach was quiet and peaceful. Perfect when you're trying to get away from everything.

Yes, we had a few mornings that looked like this...

One day hubby and I roused ourselves from our hammocks and went for a walk through the middle of the island. It was hot and sticky, but worth the effort as we found our own little slice of private beach...

And when swimming in the ocean became a little overwhelming (ha ha)... we headed for the pool, paused to admire some of the local tropical flowers, or picked up a paper. Thanks Buddha!

And when we got tired of the pool (yeah right!) we headed back to the beach again, often with a beer or two in hand. I could never get tired of a view like this...

 Okay, enough now, right?

You know what to do. Get online and book yourself a holiday now! Thailand is not an expensive country to travel in, it's devastatingly beautiful and Thai people are most lovely, friendliest souls you'll ever meet.

On the beach, you can live in bliss.

    1. Hi Elizabeth - we stayed at Outrigger Phi Phi. It was fab - lovely service, amazing private beach as you can see. It also had the bonus of a local village within walking distance down the road, which was the best place ever to eat. Keep an eye out for my next post to have your mouth water... :)

  6. Looks amazing and I think you probably went at the right time of the year - got some sun but avoided the crowds. When we were there, it was heaving with people. Love what the resort did with your bed - so cute!

    1. Ahhh thanks :0. They were really sweet and we were upgraded as well to the beach-front room, probably because it was low season. Low season travel is my favourite :)

  7. I completely understand the need for a beach holiday once in a while! City trips are awesome but also exhausting and that beach is just perfect! Would love to spend some time there myself!

  8. What a great, relaxing break you must have had. I'm not usually one for beach breaks like this, but I actually did the same in Thailand a couple of years ago. It was lovely.

  9. Wow this looks like such an amazing place to stay! I'm the same, usually I prefer city breaks with busy days doing cultural stuff all the time, but sometimes it's nice to just sit back and relax. Especially when you have a view like that!!

  11. Looks like you picked a great time for Koh Phi Phi! My boyfriend and I were there during the high tourist season last year. . .it was like an endless frat party! Our favorite during that trip ended up being Koh Lipe,

    1. I have heard lots of stories about how 'wild' Ko Phi Phi can get. Think it helped that we were in a resort quite far from the main drag and it was low season. Glad we did our research before going :)

  13. Love those pictures. Thailand looks so much like Trinidad (or any other Caribbean Island)...the beaches in Trinidad are that same darkish green, but in Tobago it is crystal clear blue. That shot of the hibiscus flower made my heart go boom boom boom...lol...it is my favourite flower. :)

    1. Thanks for stopping by Tami. I also love hibiscus flowers - I think because I identify them with lovely beach holidays like this. I haven't really seen much of the Caribbean - closest I've come would be the coast of Mexico and Belizean Cayes... there's so many fantastic places in the world to visit!
