Ios, Greece - #AtoZtravelSunday, November 09, 2014
Ios is one of the Cyclades Islands in the south of Greece - and just a few hours ferry ride from Santorini making it the perfect stop if you want to experience another island.
On arrival... we stepped off our ferry and took in the lovely port village - small cafes, the aroma of salt and coffee, a few locals playing backgammon in the sun.
At our B&B we met the sweet Lily who pointed out directions to the beach, water sports, her favourite restaurant and most importantly the bars and clubs. Oh yes, Ios is a party island!
Every evening in Ios we were treated to a glorious sunset while we feasted on fresh seafood and cocktails outdoors before heading into town for a night of fun...
One day we hired scooters and explored Ios from top to bottom, including a stop at Homer's Tomb, where the great Greek poet Homer is said to have died on the island. There is a marble plaque which reads 'Here the earth covers the sacred head of men and heroes Homer the divine poet'.
This November I'm blogging every day in a A to Z travel challenge, where I'll share some of the amazing but more obscure places I've travelled to in the world as I make my way through the alphabet.
If you'd like to join me on this travel blogging challenge please do. I'd love to hear about some of your favourite travel destinations. Tweet using #AtoZtravel and I'll retweet you, or just share your posts in my comment feed. Enjoy and Happy #AtoZtravel November!
