captivating Canada - a cottage holiday in Georgian Bay

Sunday, March 01, 2015

Two and a half years ago hubby and I had the most fantastic holiday in Canada visiting some of his extended family who live in Ontario and Quebec. One of the highlights was spending a few days at his Uncle's cottage in Georgian Bay. The scenery was so different to anything I had seen before and so devastatingly beautiful I spent much of my time trying to capture everything with my camera

Now that we are headed back to Canada in just a few months I've been revisiting my photos. Here are some of my favourites. Hello Canada...

Georgian Bay is a massive area of water - roughly 190 kilometres long and 80 kilometres wide within the state of Ontario, and is sometimes called the 'sixth Great Lake'. There are tens of thousands of islands in Georgian Bay - and it was on one of these islands that we put our feet up during our time here.

Much of our time down on the dock - soaking our feet in the freezing water, kayaking, fishing and even water skiing. Canadians (like kiwis) love their water sports!

We ate in true Canadian style too - fresh fruit, BBQ chicken, blueberry pancakes...

I loved the natural, interior of the cottage, and the wildlife that was everywhere...

Although we won't have time to go back to Georgian Bay in our upcoming trip, we do have a very exciting Canada itinerary planned that includes Calgary and the stampede, a road trip through the Rockies, some family time in Northern Alberta, Vancouver and Vancouver Island.

  4. We went to Georgian Bay - to Collingwood and the Blue Mountains a few years back. It is a three hour drive from us, but we love it there!

  5. I've never been to Canada before but mainly hear from friends and families about the big cities so it's great to hear about other areas that I was less aware of like Georgia Bay which looks lovely!
