living the sweet life - strawberry picking in Grande Prairie, Canada

There are lots of types of travel - adventure, backpacking, luxury, city break, beach bum break, yoga retreat... I could go on and on. Over the years I've tried the lot and every time I get on a plane I feel like a child again, full or excitement and anticipation.

There is one type of travel though that I don't often get an opportunity to experience, and that's the traditional family holiday. A time to relax, catch up and take part in some wholesome activities that everyone enjoys.

So when hubby and I were visiting with the Canadian side of his family in Grande Prairie, Canada this summer and his cousin offered to take us strawberry picking I was all in. Woop! Who doesn't love strawberries?

We stopped by a local farm where you could wander round the strawberry patches and pick your own. The strawberries were in perfect condition, ripe and ready to be eaten. We all filled our buckets in no time - even though quite a few made it into my mouth by mistake!

I wasn't feeling many baby kicks during this stage of pregnancy - but I'm sure Kodai was enjoying the strawberries too... (baby bump or strawberry bump?)

All in all it was a great day out, and we came home with eight buckets of juicy strawberries that we spent that evening and the next day turning into strawberry jam and jelly. Yum.

I still have one jar of the jam in my fridge here in London. It's a special treat that has come out only on the weekends since returning to the UK.

  1. That must have been a lovely family holiday ! So nice you still have the strawberry jam to remind you of it ! A bit like my olive oil, orange marmalade and limoncello from my parents' house in Spain !
